Younghui is one of the participating artists for this very first 3D Print Contemporary Art exhibition at Savina Museum of Contemporary Art.  (Curatorial Director:  Jaeheon Kang 강재헌)  Younghui is displaying two artworks.  One is the digital drawing & the other is 3D printed artwork, titled ‘First Edition of Network (2014, 100 cm x 60 cm).

For this piece, the artist had her creative process using this new technology differently – instead of drawing in hands, she drew her drawing in computer then 3D-modeled from the finished digital drawing.  The digital drawing was 3D printed into the physical pieces to assemble.   This digital-to-analogue process felt almost like a traditional printmaking to her as each edition is slightly different in details influenced by physical condition as well as careful technical processes to final print.   The whole 3D printing process took about 3 months after the concept and the artist spent about a month to test print in various kinds of 3D printers and different settings.

With strong shadows created with these 3D printed patterns inspired from leaf vein may remind you of old narrow alleys, vein under skin, tree branches… which are all very related with network.

Exhibition, Da Vinci Creative Technology – Media City Seoul 2012

Media City Seoul 2012, Da Vinci Creative Technology Art exhibition,

Younghui’s new wearable art project, ‘Gravity of Light’  3D printed textile wearable hat is finally completed three months after her team got a Da Vinci Creative Grant funded by Seoul Foundation of Art and Culture & Art Space Guemcheon.   This exhibition was held with Media City Seoul 2012 (Seoul Media Art Biennale) from Sept 10th – October 9th, 2012

“Gravity of Light”   – Interactive Wearable using 3D printed smart textile

What if light on the surface of the wearable textile behaves like it has
gravity… It started with this simple idea of light having gravity like water.

“Gravity of Light” is a wearable technology art made of 3D printed smart textile that displays the wearer’s natural movement of head such as tilting.  With embedded custom designed electronic circuitry in a hat, light pixels move on the surface of the hat flowing toward titled direction.
